In Art, landscape, local artist, Photography on February 18, 2014 at 2:26 PMA friend and I made it all the way up to Rockland, ME recently. We both managed to miss snowstorms in CT, MA and NH – only to arrive in Rockland with the news they were expecting 1 – 2 feet of snow that evening. Despite the wind, the cold and soggy feet – I managed to get one or two images. Here is my favorite. A shed along the shore – beautiful and interesting to me with its weathered story.

In collaboration, personal, Photography, twenty two on January 21, 2014 at 3:19 PMLydia and I are moving our project in a new direction. Here is her post explaining the idea and revealing her first picture – to which I am responding below.
Here’s the idea. Last week she took a picture and posted it on her blog. This week I am responding to her picture with words (I am challenging myself to keep it to twenty-two words each week) – which will be the beginning of what we hope will be an unfolding story – and posting my picture – to which she will respond the next week.
While the ingredients for her amazing cranberry apple chutney were simmering, she wondered what the ingredients for an amazing life would be.

In Art, art portraiture, local artist, personal, Photography on December 20, 2013 at 5:35 PMI re-watched a documentary about the work of Gregory Crewdson today. The closing line of the movie (his voice and words) really resonate and make me continue to think about a topic that’s been on my mind for a while. I have post it notes all around the studio that implore me to “write a new story”. Here are Gregory Crewdson’s words “I feel very strongly that every artist has one central story to tell. The struggle is to tell and retell that story over and over again in visual form … and try to challenge that story. But at the core that story remains the same. It’s like the defining story of who you are.”
What’s your story?
