Portrait Photographer | Manchester, CT | Tamyka

I did a “Portrait Project” a couple of years ago. The idea was to build my portfolio, improve my skills and plant the seeds for a project that swims around in the back of my mind. Challenging the ideas of what beauty is – finding value in every person – and reflecting what I see back. Tamyka agreed to be one of my models. We were in natural light and she started off with no make up. Something in the way the light was hitting her caught my attention and I asked her to quickly apply some make up and wrap herself in the colorful scarf she had around her neck. This was our result. While as a photographer who has learned a little since then, I can get wrapped up in all the technical things that need improvement – I still love this image. The moment we captured will never exist again and I love how photography can capture and document our lives – allowing us to travel back in time for a minute just like a song or a smell can.

I’m loving square crops recently. Also love Pablo Neruda. I came across this quote while processing this image and like them paired together.

“Someday, somewhere – anywhere, unfailingly, you’ll find yourself, and that, and only that, can be the happiest or bitterest hour of your life.”

I took a hike on Sunday and was as mesmerized by the light of Fall as I was the colors.

Female Portrait Photographer | Manchester, CT – Tamyka in Natural Light

Tamyka came to me wanting to begin the process of building a portfolio for herself. We’ll be doing several sessions – this first one being shot in natural light. It’s so nice to have an hour outside of the studio enjoying the Fall weather and doing what I love. Here are just two of many beautiful images from our time together. Thinking about booking an outdoor session for yourself? Pick your favorite outdoor location and I’ll meet you there. Tamyka brought along a friend who helped me out with the light by holding reflectors – and you can do that too. Let’s get out and enjoy while we still can.

Family Portrait in Wickham Park – Manchester, CT

In Children, local artist, Photography, Portrait on October 2, 2013 at 3:53 PM

I realize that each time I share a few photos from my portrait sessions I use similar descriptives.  “I had so much fun; it was an honor; this family is beautiful; can’t wait to share a sneak peek…” Thankfully – it’s always true. I love what I do and the people I get to meet in the process. The Qureshi family was no different. They showed up to our chosen location of Wickham Park right on time and dressed wonderfully. In fact, in the back of my mind I was wishing I could hire Marcy to help all my clients get ready for their sessions. [Take note future clients – all of their colors compliment each other without being too “matchy” – and they convey the vibrancy of this family] Marcy is due with baby number two in a few weeks – so we got this session in just in time and I’m very happy to share it with you. ♥ [Please note – you can click on each image to view it larger/in a slide show format]

Casual Business Head Shots

I got the chance to work with Beate recently doing some company head shots. Everyone was so welcoming in her work place and it was a pleasure getting the opportunity to make these images. We were striving for professional, welcoming and a little creative. Here’s a sneak peek. ♥
